I started taking a lot of pictures when I bought my first digital camera in 2002. Pictures prior to those were with a Samsung 35mm Evoca Camera, that really had great picture quality. I bought the camera before I moved to Tokyo for the year of 1999-2000. After skiing in Nagano one week in February, the camera fell out of my pocket onto the moutain and into the snow, never to be found again. (1)
The following year, in 2000, I was in Bali, Indonesia. One evening, we went to watch the sunset from the spot claimed "the Most Beautiful sunset on Earth". I had my camera ready to take pictures--camera in lap, waiting for the sun to drop, someone yelled my name and I stood up, only to see my camera drop.. Bump, bump, bump, splash down the cliff the camera went, as I saw my last hopes of taking care of a camera that was not pocket size. (2)
After my return to the states, I didn't buy a camera quickly, but waited until 2002, when I bought my Canon Powershot S200. (3) This began the surge of curiosity with different ideas on pictures, settings, and my creativity with photography started to take place. Although never formally trained, I feel I've got a good understanding of some framing techniques and ideas with my photography. Although having interesting places to photograph has certainly helped, I'd like to think too that my photographs are nice due to some skill in framing and good eyes for photo opportunities.
After my European tour of 2002, I came back and moved to San Francisco, California. I then bought the Canon Powershot S230 (4). I love the quality of the pictures. For now, I think this camera is the perfect fit for all my traveling--it's lightweight, good battery life, and portability makes it all the better for traveling.
During a conference held by my company in Singapore, I found a great bargain on the new Canon Powershot (IXUS V) (5) 5.0 megapixel camera, and I decided to upgrade yet again. With this new camera, I was able to capture some great images from my travels.
As the new technology progressed however, I decided to sell my Ixus V and downgrade my 'pocket' camera to the 3.2 megapixel Canon Powershot SD230 (6). My logic here was that I had decided to purchase my first professional Digital SLR--the Canon Digital Rebel XT (7). So now, I have a small pocket-sized camera for quick shots that aren't going to be real photography pieces, and my DSLR for those shots that will be art.
So, this website is dedicated to all my photography both old and new, artistic and candid, hi-res and low-res. I hope you enjoy.
